The CRITICAL ZONE Student
CRITICAL ZONE targets students who have the desire to be a positive contributor to his/her community and possess the desire to work hard to get there. These are students who are capable of completing the curriculum however, they are not currently being provided with a tool to connect academics with career aspirations. In some cases they will be the first in their families to attend college, and many are from low-income or minority families. In other instances they are students who are capable of being on a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) track. CRITICAL ZONE puts students in a position to understand how to learn strategy and become GOAL DRIVEN!
The CRITICAL ZONE Elective
Students are enrolled in their regular classes and are also in the CRITICAL ZONE elective. For one period a day, they learn how to develop skills in personal planning and how to be goal driven individuals. Their self-esteem improves, and they become successful role models for other students and their communities.
The CRITICAL ZONE Curriculum
The CRITICAL ZONE curriculum, based on rigorous standards, was developed by teachers, administrators and corporate professionals. The programs keys are reading, writing, listening, speaking and technology. CRITICAL ZONE curriculum is used in CRITICAL ZONE elective classes, in content-area classes in CRITICAL ZONE schools, and even in schools where the CRITICAL ZONE elective is not offered. The curriculum is aligned with the state Core Curriculum Content Standards for Career Development and Technology.
The CRITICAL ZONE Faculty
The key to a successful CRITICAL ZONE program is a site coordinator/teacher who is a respected site instructional leader who works well with the faculty, who can organize curriculum as well as activities, and who is committed to serving the needs of target students. The coordinator also works with colleagues to implement CRITICAL ZONE methodologies school wide, and to work with counselors to guide students through the career success preparation process.
The CRITICAL ZONE Parent
CRITICAL ZONE parents encourage their students to achieve! The CRITICAL ZONE parent attends meetings, and maintains regular contact with the CRITICAL ZONE coordinator and teachers. The parents and students will participate in CRITICAL ZONE Family Workshops.
Professional Development
The CRITICAL ZONE elective class is led by a teacher who's been trained in the program's methodologies. CRITICAL ZONE's Professional Development provides the teachers with the resources needed to provide a great learning environment.
The CRITICAL ZONE Community
The CRITICAL ZONE program is a great tool to demonstrate to the community that there is a resource available to assist the youth in developing life skills to support academic achievement.
